The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is an international agreement between governments which aims to ensure that trade of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
The CITES talks take place every two to three years in a member country. Last meeting (2016) was held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Sri Lanka is to host CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) in 2019 . 5,000 experts from over 187 countries are expected for the meeting.
