Good news to all yachting lovers in the world!

The Sri Lankan government is planning to develop a Yacht Marina at Galle Port. According to the Hon. Kanaka Herath, State Minister of Ports Development Affairs, the Galle Port has long been a favorite amongst tourists to Sri Lanka who love sailing and it is planned to call for proposals on the new look of the Galle Port that can fit 22 yachts. Initially, the government plans to create a port that will fit various types of yachts from container ships to luxury cruise liners.

The yacht marina will be equipped with high quality accommodation, yacht repair and service facilities, and restaurants.  The government hopes that it will also be a stimulus for economic development.

Galle is a UNESCO World Heritage site which is very popular among tourists, particularly due to best preserved Dutch Fort in South Asia being located there.
