Minister of Industrial Exports and Investment Promotion, Hon. Prasanna Ranatunga, said that the Government intends to initiate thirty tourism-sector related investments for 2020. The investment is predicted to fulfill the expected foreign direct investment of US$ 122 million.

Amongst the projects, one of them is the development of 550 rooms and 440 villas in Sri Lanka. The government is placing great importance on investment in the tourism sector.

Sri Lanka is home to 8 UNESCO World Heritage Site, such as the City of Polonaruwa, the Ancient City of Sigiriya, the Old Town of Galle and its Fortifications, the Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple, the Sacred City of Anuradhapura, the Sacred City of Kandy, the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka, and the Sinharaja Forest Reserve.
