The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Indonesia organized the Sahabat (best friend) Sri Lanka programme to foster friendship and cultural exchanges between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, specifically targeting Indonesian youth aged 17 to 35. The event was held on 09 August 2024. Participants had the opportunity to engage in a conversation with the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia and ASEAN Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage and Minister Counsellor in Defence Commodore Chaminda Karunasena, on the contemporary global scene and challenges for the future of humanity, and the impact of climate change and global warming.
The Indonesian youth learned of the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka, encompassing its traditions, arts, and history. The program featured interactive sessions highlighting the vibrant aspects of Sri Lankan culture, enhancing mutual understanding and appreciation.
Complementing the cultural experience, attendees had the opportunity to a taste of Sri Lankan cuisine, with delicious Sri Lankan cutlets and sandwiches made on their own during the cooking demonstrations session at the event. This culinary show aimed at promoting Sri Lankan flavors among Indonesian youth, encouraging them to explore and appreciate the diverse culinary landscape of Sri Lanka.
The event was another significant step towards strengthening the cultural ties between the two nations, paving the way for future collaborations and exchanges.
