The Cabinet of Ministers granted their consent to the proposal made by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi to establish the Anuradhapura Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Zone, Co-Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department yesterday, Minister Rambukwella said that it has been planned to establish the Anuradhapura Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Zone in Oyanamadu where the Deyata Kirula exhibition was held. It was decided to provide an opportunity for local investors to invest in this Zone for the production of high quality pharmaceutical products at a low price. All pharmaceutical products will be manufactured according to the international standards.

An Experts Committee has already selected 24 investors. The investors are expected to invest approximately Rs.28,200 million for this purpose. Accordingly, the plots of land will be released through a lease agreement for a period of 35 years with a relief period of five years.

This project is scheduled to be conducted as a strategic project under the State Ministry of Pharmaceuticals Production and Manufacturing.
