The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Indonesia celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Independence Day of Sri Lanka

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Indonesia celebrated the 75th Anniversary of Independence Day of Sri Lanka on 04th February 2023 at the Embassy premises with the participation of Sri Lankan community and friends of Sri Lanka in Indonesia.

The event commenced with the hoisting of National Flag by Ambassador-designate Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage followed by the singing of National Anthem. A two minute silence was observed, in honor of those, who dedicated and sacrificed their lives, for the motherland.

Keeping in line with the tradition and culture of Sri Lanka, the lighting of the traditional oil lamp took place followed by the multi-faith religious observances invoking blessing on the country and the people of Sri Lanka.  The Independence Day Messages of H.E. the President, Hon. Prime Minister and Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs were read by the Embassy staff in all three languages.

Addressing the gathering, Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage briefed the Sri Lankan community regarding the actions taken by the Government to ensure the recovery of the economy and requested Sri Lankans living in Indonesia to join with the Government to rebuild a progressive nation. The Ambassador-designate Colombage emphasized that the Sri Lanka Embassy in Jakarta is committed to serve all Sri Lankans in Indonesia and requested them to consider the Embassy as their second home.

The members of the Sri Lankan community were served with a lunch at the end of the Ceremony.
