The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta organized an Ifthar gathering in collaboration with the Sri Lankan community in Indonesia on 01 April 2023. The programme consisted of talks on basics and values of Islam, recitation of Dua, breakfasting, and Evening Prayers (Maghrib payers). The event was held in Sinhala, Indonesian and English languages to suit guests from various backgrounds.

In his welcome remarks, Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage brought the theme “humanity beyond religion” while highlighting the importance of fasting during the holy month of Ramazan. He mentioned that this period of abstinence is a great opportunity to develop a sensitivity towards the starving people in the world as well as to practice the ability of self-control.

Desha Bandu, Desha Keerthi, Manawa Hithawadi, As- Sheik H.M. Rizwan (Al- Mahkami) delivered a speech via zoom from Sri Lanka on the basics and values of Islam. He referred to the same rituals exist in Buddhism, Catholics and Hinduism, and stated that fasting during the month of Ramazan better known as one of five pillars of Islam conveys the message of importance of adhering to an exemplary practice while abstaining from physical luxuries.

Guests were served with refreshments to break their fast followed by a typical Sri Lankan dinner. This year marked the largest gathering for an Ifthar event conducted by the Embassy.
