The Sahabat (Best Friend) Sri Lanka Program was attended by Indonesian youth aged 17-30 years at the Sri Lankan Embassy premises in Jakarta on 27 October 2023. Most participants were International Relations students from various universities in Indonesia nationwide.

The event began with the singing of the National anthem of Indonesia and Sri Lanka, followed by a Sri Lankan popular song, Suranganita Malu Genawa. The participating students got hands-on experiences singing Sri Lankan songs alongside H.E. the Ambassador Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage.

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka, H.E. Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage accompanied by embassy staff including the Minister Counsellor (Defence) and the Second Secretary (Commercial) had a dialogue and discussion about the Indian Ocean and Sri Lanka’s position on the Indian Ocean. The Ambassador explained how Sri Lanka has played a role in the Indian Ocean and invited all participants to participate in protecting the oceans. All participants were very enthusiastic and they raised many questions seeking responses from the Ambassador.

The Sri Lankan Embassy team also gave prizes to the participants from Sahabat Sri Lanka, for a quiz on Sri Lankan Tourism spots. The event ended with a group photo session and some refreshments with Sri Lankan Ceylon tea.
