Ambassador-Designate of Sri Lanka to Indonesia Sashikala Premawardhane Assumes Duties

The Ambassador-designate of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Indonesia, Sashikala Premawardhane assumed duties at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Jakarta on 21 November 2025. Her assumption of duties was marked by a simple, multi-faith religious ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador-designate Premawardhane set out her plans for strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, emphasised the need for vigorous promotion of trade and investment ties between the two countries.

Ambassador-designate Premawardhane is a career diplomat with over 27 years of experience in diplomacy including various assignments at the Foreign Ministry and Sri Lanka Missions overseas. She is a Special Grade officer of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service.

Prior to her arrival in Jakarta she served as the Additional Secretary, Bilateral Political Affairs-East of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Foreign Employment & Tourism in Colombo.

She also served as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Singapore from June 2019 to September 2023.  

Ambassador-designate Premawardhane holds a Master’s degree in Conflict and Peace Studies from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Pune, India. She is a past pupil of Bishop’s College, Colombo.
