The Embassy of Sri Lanka actively participated in the 55th Annual Charity Bazaar organized by the Women’s International Club in Jakarta, held at the Jakarta Convention Centre on 13 and 14 November 2024. The primary purpose of the bazaar was to support several selected orphanages and elderly care centers across Indonesia, in addition to providing scholarships to children to continue their education without obstacles.

Among the stalls operated by forty-two embassies based in Indonesia, along with various business vendors, the Sri Lankan stall attracted numerous visitors by showcasing Ceylon tea and Cinnamon, as well as apparel adorned with designs inspired by Sri Lanka’s historical art, such as decorated elephants and the moonstone (Sandakada Pahana).

In conjunction with the opening ceremony of the bazaar, the Second Lady of Indonesia, Selvi Ananda, spouse of Vice President Gibran of Indonesia, visited the Sri Lankan stall. She congratulated the Embassy staff and business representatives on their contribution to the two-day bazaar. Admiral (Prof.) Jayanath Colombage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia presented the Second Lady with a gold-plated mini tea set, highlighting the uniqueness of Ceylon tea in honor of her visit. Many other dignitaries including the spouses of the Ministers of Indonesia, Ambassadors and Spouses from a number of nations visited the Sri Lanka stall.

It was notable that Dilmah Tea was promoted at the bazaar in various ways, including being served to VIP guests during the opening ceremony. While promoting authentic “Ceylon Cinnamon” at the stall, visitors were educated on the value of genuine “Ceylon Cinnamon”.
