Vesak was observed in Jakarta, on Vesak Poya Day, yesterday (10 May 2017) at the Sri Lanka Embassy at Jalan Diponogoro with Ven Udugalmote Siriwimala, Viharadhipathi of the Horana Purvarama Viharaya leading the religious observances, chanting of pirith and dharma desana. The ceremony was joined by Ven. members of the Clergy from several Buddhist temples in Jakarta.
At this occasion, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Jakarta Dharshana M. Perera was joined by visiting State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatics Resources Dilip Wedaarachchi, with the active participation of the Sri Lankan Community in Indonesia. The event which also included Vesak pandals, lanterns, lamps andVesak Dansala was organized by the Embassy in partnershipand strong support of the Sri Lankan community in Indonesia, institutions and private sector who contributed in numerous ways. This years commemoration was of special significance as it was the first time in recent years that Ven members of the Clergy from Sri Lanka conducted the ceremonies at the Embassy in Jakarta. It receives added significance given that Sri Lanka hosts the International Observance of Vesak.
