Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency Madam Ida Fauziyah, Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia on 11 April 2023. While expressing concerns on the current economic challenges faced by the Government of Sri Lanka, Her Excellency Minister of Manpower agreed to exchange employment opportunities between the two countries.

Madam Ida Fauziyah mentioned four national priorities of the Indonesian Government to strengthen the manpower sector such as enhance the national economic stability, improve the quality and competence of human resources, strengthen infrastructure facilities and strengthen political and legal framework to secure the manpower sector. While highlighting the decrease of unemployment rate of Indonesia in the year 2022 compared to 2020 and 2021, Minister of Manpower expressed willingness to share best practice in the employment sector with the Government of Sri Lanka.

Ambassador Colombage stated that there is a huge demand is available in foreign countries for expatriate workers, but the supply of experienced workers from Sri Lanka is very low compared to the demand. He also mentioned that the Sri Lankan government has introduced new schemes for public servants enabling them to work abroad. Ambassador also conveyed mostly preferred job sectors by the Sri Lankan employees who are willing to work abroad and sought employment opportunities for Sri Lankans in Indonesia.

Minister of Manpower instructed Prof. Anwar Sanusi, Secretary General of the Ministry to work closely with the Embassy in this regard.
