The Sri Lankan Embassy in Jakarta celebrated the 76th Anniversary of National Independence Day at the Sri Lankan Embassy on 04 February 2024 with a participation of a large number of Sri Lankans living in Indonesia and Indonesian representatives.
The celebrations commenced by hoisting the National Flag by H.E. the Ambassador Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage followed by singing the national anthem. Thereafter, two minutes silence observed to commemorate war heroes and those who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland.
All participated in Multi-faith religious observances conducted by clergy to invoke blessings which was followed by the lightning of the traditional oil lamp.
National Day messages of H.E. the President, Hon. Prime Minister, and Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs were read prior to the Ambassador Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage addressed the gathering. The Ambassador recalled the struggle and sacrifices in achieving the Independence, the relationship with Indonesia, and the support extended by the Indonesians and Sri Lankans Living in Indonesia taking Sri Lanka forward into an era of prosperity.
A delicious Lunch prepared to Sri Lankan style was served at the end.
