Located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka, Minneriya National Park provides tourists with the opportunity to see herd of Elephants throughout the year. Minneriya National Park is blessed with 24 species of mammals, 160 species of birds, 9 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptile, 26 species of fish, and 75 species of butterflies.
Minneriya National Park is also known as the world’s largest meeting place of Asian Elephants in the world, where up to 350 elephants can be seen at its 8,890 hectare park.
Other animals that tourists can see at the park are Sri Lanka’s purple-face langur, toque macaque, Sri Lankan Sambar Deer, Sri Lankan Axis Deer, Sri Lankan leopard, Sri Lankan Sloth Bear, Gray Slender Loris, lesser adjutant, painted stork, spot-billed pelican, Great white pelican, ruddy turnstone, grey heron, Sri Lanka jungle fowl, Sri Lanka hanging parrot, brown-capped babbler, Sri Lanka grey hornbill, black-crested bulbul and crimson-fronted barbet.
Meanwhile, amphibians at Minneriya National Park are Slender Wood Frog and the Common Tree Frog. the Red-lipped Lizard. Water and Land Monitors, the Mugger Crocodile, and many species of fresh water fish.
